HOW many times in my life I have seen, heard, or read "To Be Continued" and internally had an emotional breakdown I have no idea. More than I would like to admit to, but this is the sort of thing that happens when you connect too strongly with fictional characters...
Anyways.....this is not meant to be one those TBC statements.
I feel as though I rather abruptly ended my records for my
summer. There was actually 3 more trips that all happened back to back that
were almost impossible to record all that happened as each minute was so
special and unique. This post is not about this trip anymore however. My time
in Bangladesh has been over for nearly a month now and as often happens once
one returns to America, feels quite distant and almost unreal. Our visible
realities take over when we come “home” and our old habits return, experiences
that seemed to make you feel the most alive at the time they occurred quickly
become nebulous shells of dreamlike memories. Sometimes even I have a hard time
believing bits of my own mind, though I know the images and thoughts recalled
are accurate.
I am actually terrible to journaling or emailing people or
calling or even sending short Facebook messages, but I actually quite liked
blogging this summer. It was a good way for me to record for my own future
recall what happened, and a really fun way to process some of the thoughts
going through my mind at the time. On a normal basis I am very rarely an
introspective person, yet when I have the chance to sit and type about my life
for a few min a day, I feel like I am able to dig down to a whole different person;
one I hope to grow to be more mature, wise, and patient. All this to say: I
will attempt to continue on posting here.
I know the title of my blog is Laura’s Travels, but lets be
honest, being a California Girl who grew up in the middle east, living in
Atlanta Ga…the Southern United States… this is pretty much the most culture
shock you can get. Also past the end of this year, God knows where I will be,
(most definitely not GA, and sadly probably not back to CA), and is sure to
provide more adventure shortly.
I don't expect pretty much anyone to waste their time
reading such ramblings by me, I am sure everyone has much more pressing matters
in life. But if anyone feels like catching up on what is going through the head
of a Master of Public Health student attempting to survive her final year of
her program, you are at the right place.
